On 12 January 1998, Oasis released All Around the World by Oasis | Flying Birds as the third and final UK single from Be Here Now Album by Oasis | The Flying Birds. Written by Noel Gallagher years before the band became famous, the song had been held back until Oasis had the resources to realise its enormous arrangement.

The single came with The Fame, Flashbax and a cover of the Rolling Stones’ Street Fighting Man. Its lavish production, orchestral sweep and repeated closing refrain made it one of the clearest expressions of the excess that defined the Be Here Now period.

All Around the World reached number one in the UK and remains the longest song to top the UK singles chart. Its animated, Beatles-influenced video pushed the same maximalist idea even further, making the release a fitting final statement from Oasis’ most extravagant era.
