In May 1996, during a break between Oasis, tours and writing sessions, Noel Gallagher travelled to the Caribbean Island of Mustique with producer Owen Morris. Whilst staying at Mick Jaggers villa Noel brought a Tascam 8 track recorder and drum machine and laid down a set of raw demo recordings that would later become the backbone of Be Here Now.
Rather than simply jotting down ideas on paper, Noel and Owen spent several weeks in Mustique fleshing out full demo versions of the songs intended for Oasis's thurd studio album. Noel had been struggling with writers block earlier in the year, but once in Mustique he wrote and recorded prolifically, completing demos for a large portion of what would become Be Here Now.

These recordings were made with programmed drums and Noels INtsrumentation, and luncluded acoustic guitar, song strucures, and guide vocals, essentially functioning as blueprint versions, of the songs before the ful lband sessions in London later that year.
Over time the Mustique Demos achieved a near-mythical status among Oasis Fans ,largley because they captured the songs in a simpler, more direct form, uncluttered by the dense overdubs and production choices that later defined Be Here Now.
Some of the Songs recorded as Mustique Demos included early versions of classic Oasis Tracks such as:
D'You Know What I Mean?
My Big Mouth,
Don't Go Away,
I Hope I Think I Know,
All Round The World,
Its Getting Better Man,
The Girl In The Dirty Shirt,
Stay Young,
Angel Child,
Trip Inside.
Although the demos circulated for years among collectors and fans, many were officially released in 2016 as part of Be Here Now deluxe reissue. This release included the Mustique recordings, providing the public access to the original versions Noel and Owen produced nearly 2 decades earlier.
Music writers and fans alike have noted the the Mustique recordings offer a very different Be Here Now experience, more stripped back and immediate and some consider tham superior to the dense arrangements of the 1997 album.
