The Flight that Became Legend

Before they even touched down, Cathay Pacific Flight CX171 devolved into what witnesses later described as a “flying circus.”
Crew and passengers endured “swearing, object-throwing, and smoking in prohibited areas.” At one point, the pilot considered diverting to Perth to remove the band.

According to reports, a furious Liam Gallagher threatened to stab the pilot with a pen after complaining about the shape of a scone.

The chaos continued in Brisbane, where a fan hoping for a photo left with a broken nose after Liam head-butted him outside the Quay West apartments. Police charged him with assault occasioning bodily harm.
At the February 1998 hearing, a courtroom packed with over 50 journalists and photographers heard that prosecutors initially sought a $100 000 bail bond. It was reduced to $10 000, and Liam went on to play the same night.

He later told Australian reporter Marc Fennell:

“The assault was justice — the geezer put a camera in my face and I told him not to.”
