"Lock All the Doors" is a track by Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, released as the fourth single from their second studio album Chasing Yesterday (2015).
If there is ever a song which shows evolution of writing and the history and progression from Oasis to Flying Birds and gives an insight into Noels Writing its probably this one.
Noel wrote the chorus and at least one verse very early — around the time Oasis were still playing small clubs and trying to get signed. An early demo from this period (sometimes called “Lock All the Doors”) exists and was later reworked. The verses from that demo eventually became the Be Here Now B-side “My Sister Lover” (1997). The chorus, however, stayed with Noel because he always thought it was “fucking brilliant.”
Noel gave away one of the verses to The Chemical Brothers. They used it (along with new lyrics Noel wrote overnight) for their huge hit “Setting Sun” — which went to No. 1 in the UK and became a landmark big-beat/psychedelic track. This is why the two songs share DNA
While walking out of a Tesco Metro in Maida Vale, London (specifically near Boots), the missing verse and melody suddenly came to him “in a flash of inspiration” with no warning. He has repeatedly told this story in interviews — it’s become one of his favourite songwriting anecdotes.
Finally recorded and released on Chasing Yesterday as the fourth single. It became one of the standout rock tracks on the album and a live favourite.
He has said multiple times that he refused to let the chorus die because it was too good. Even though parts of it were cannibalised for “My Sister Lover” and “Setting Sun”, he always knew the full song had potential.
Fans often call it the closest thing to a “lost Oasis classic” that Noel ever properly finished in his solo career. The High Flying Birds version is faster, punchier, and more anthemic than the early demos.
