The original "AKA... What a Life!" appeared on Gallagher's self-titled debut album in 2011, inspired by themes of chasing dreams and life's uncertainties.
The Amorphous Androgynous, who had previously remixed Oasis' "Falling Down" into a 22-minute epic in 2009, were tapped for this project to push Gallagher's music into more experimental territory. Noel announced a full collaborative album in July 2011, describing it as "far-out" and akin to Dark Side of the Moon. Sessions involved orchestras, choirs, and diverse instrumentation, but the project stalled due to creative disagreements—Noel felt the duo made it too self-indulgent, while they accused him of shying away from experimentation. Touring fatigue, health issues like glandular fever, and low mixing volumes further delayed it.
By 2012, Noel shelved the album, destroying early masters, though elements resurfaced in his 2015 release Chasing Yesterday (e.g., "The Mexican" and "The Right Stuff").
In 2018, Noel expressed mild regret but no plans to release it; as of 2021, Cobain held the masters and called the work "extraordinary," but it remains unreleased without Noel's approval.
