Sharrock's professional journey began with The Cherry Boys, contributing to their debut single "Man to Man" in January 1981. He then joined The Icicle Works in 1981, playing on their first four albums and helping to define their distinctive sound until his departure in 1988.

Sharrock's versatility led him to join The Lightning Seeds, followed by a significant tenure as the drummer for Robbie Williams' live band from 1997 to 2008, during which he played on several of Williams' successful albums and tours

In 2008, Sharrock joined Oasis, replacing drummer Zak Starkey. Although he did not play on their 2008 album Dig Out Your Soul, he was integral to the subsequent tour, earning acclaim for his energetic performances and engaging stage presence.
