Gem Archer - Oasis and Flying Birds Guitarist

Gem Archer grew up in Durham, where he developed a deep love for music. Influenced by the sounds of glam rock, punk, and classic rock, he began playing guitar at an early age. By the late 1980s, Archer was carving out his place in the music world, joining the band Whirlpool as a guitarist before forming the glam rock-inspired group Heavy Stereo in the early 1990s.

Heavy Stereo released their debut album, Déjà Voodoo, in 1996, earning a cult following for their glam rock revival sound. Although the band never achieved mainstream success, Archer’s guitar work and song writing caught the attention of Noel Gallagher. When founding Oasis member Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs departed the band in 1999, Archer was tapped to fill his shoes.

Archer officially joined Oasis as rhythm guitarist in 1999, during a period of transition for the band. He quickly became an integral part of their line up, contributing to three studio albums:

In 2017, Gem Archer officially joined Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds as a touring guitarist and multi-instrumentalist. His role in the band capitalized on his deep understanding of Noel’s music, honed during their years together in Oasis. Archer’s ability to complement Noel’s distinctive style made him an invaluable addition to the line up.

Archer’s live performances with the High Flying Birds brought a richer, more dynamic energy to the band’s sound. His ability to play multiple instruments, including lead guitar and keyboards, added versatility to the band’s live arrangements. Tracks such as "Pretty Boy" and "There She Blows!" highlight Archer’s ability to enhance Noel’s compositions with subtle yet impactful touches.
