On 23 February 1998, Liam Gallagher was banned for life by Cathay Pacific following an incident on a flight from Hong Kong to Perth during Oasis’ Be Here Now tour. Reports alleged disruptive behaviour aboard the aircraft, including a scone being thrown at a member of the cabin crew.

The episode immediately became international news and added another entry to the growing catalogue of stories surrounding Oasis on the road. By this stage, the band’s fame meant that incidents which might once have remained tour gossip were reported around the world.

The ban became one of the best-known anecdotes from the Australian leg of the tour. It also reflected the increasingly difficult atmosphere around Oasis as a long global campaign, intense press attention and the excesses of the Be Here Now period began to take their toll.
